This class is mandatory for all youths operating an ATV off of one's own land between the ages of 8 and 15 years of age.

Items you will need for the class:

1. Your ATV with proper registration and insurance

2. Dot approved helmet, goggles / glasses and gloves

3. over the ankle boots or shoes

4. long pants and shirt

 

 

ATV safety training is MANDATORY for Pennsylvania's youth, ages 8 thru 15 years of age.  

This means that your children CAN NOT leave your property on an ATV unless he has been properly trained by a certified ATV Safety Instructor.

 ADULT SAFETY TRAINING 

ADULT ATV Safety Training may be obtained through the AMERICAN SAFETY INSTITUTE. You may be eligible for up to $100 for taking a class. Jot down the VIN numbers off your machine and call their toll free number for more information on a class offered close to you:

Thanks to the DCNR of Pennsylvania, ATV Traction will be the largest Group of Youth trainers in the State of Pennsylvania.

We are hoping to have one or more classes a month, more if needed.  As of right now we have 3 youth training area's located in Mercer County, Venango County, Erie County.

FAQ's

1. Will this class be honored in all States?

Yes, being that it is a State recognized course it will be honored when you travel to another State to ride.

2. Is there a charge for this course?

No, if you are an ATV Traction member it will be free to you. Nonmembers we ask a donation to help cover course costs.

3. Will I receive a certificate if I take this course?

Yes, you will receive a certificate and a card to carry in your possession if you are stopped and questioned by any law enforcement officer.

4. Can my parents drop me off and pick me up later?

No, ATV Traction requires that the parent or guardian be present while the class is in session.

5. How long does this class take to complete?

normaly 4 to 6 hours depending class size.

6. Can I bring a friend to take this class also?

Absolutely, we would hope that you would ask your friends to be involved and get their training as well.

7. Is it true that my parents can be fined if I am caught off of our property without this training?

Yes, fines normaly run around $300.00 for the 1st offense if you do not have the required training if stopped.

8. Is the class really that important and will I learn to handle my ATV in a bad situation?

Most definately! It has been proven that children that have taken this class have a much lower chance of being hurt while operating an ATV.

9. Will my parents learn from this youth training class?

Yes, we have had many parents comment on lessons that will be covered in this class.

10. Will this class be hard to take and be boring?

No way, we have had many kids comment on how much fun they had and what they have learned.
